Advocacy and support for those seeking assistance and safety from domestic violence, or for anyone seeking information about domestic violence, is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Collect calls are accepted. We do not use caller ID and all our calls are blocked to ensure safety and confidentiality.

Wakefield Drop-in Center:  Open Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Located at 61 Main Street, Wakefield, RI. We are available for people who are in need of referrals, support or advocacy.


Westerly Drop-in Center: Now open at 70 Pierce Street for people who are in need of referrals, support or advocacy.  Hours are Monday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Residential Services:  We provide a confidential Safe Home Program where abused women and their children participate in an agreed upon program to achieve personal, family and economic stability.

Court Advocacy:  Our Court Advocacy Office is in the McGrath Judicial Complex on Route 1 in Wakefield. The hours are 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday. We provide assistance in obtaining Family and District Court restraining orders and guide and assist victims through often difficult court processes and cases.  The court office phone number is 401.782.4174.

DVRCSC Groups Offered: Please call our helpline for specific locations of these groups.

Women’s Support Groups: Our free and confidential drop-in support groups are for women dealing with current or past abuse (physical, emotional and/or sexual). No registration necessary.

Men’s Group: A free and confidential support group for men dealing with current or past domestic abuse. Wednesdays 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Call 782-3990 to confirm.

New Directions; Changing Patterns, Changing Lives: A twelve to fifteen week closed, psycho-educational program for women who have had a pattern of abusive relationships during their lives. Childcare is provided and a fee is requested (a sliding scale is available). Call for screening.

One on One Counseling: A masters level or licensed therapist provides individual therapy to women and men who have experienced the trauma of adult or childhood domestic violence. A fee is requested (a sliding scale is available). Call 401.782.3990 for screening.

Violence Prevention Programs for Youth: We offer a variety of school and community based educational programs for children, teens, parents and teachers, including support groups for high school women. The curriculums are engaging and developmentally appropriate, focusing on comparing and contrasting abuse and respect within interpersonal relationships. The youth learn to recognize warning signs of abusive relationships, personal boundaries issues, where to go for help, and concepts on mutual respect. In addition to raising awareness, the programs provide useful techniques in life skills: how to better communicate our needs, listening, emotional regulation, conflict resolution and the benefits of being proactive verses reactive.  For more information, contact our Director of Education & Outreach at 401.782.3990.

Public Education and Professional Training: The DVRCSC offers many educational presentations to the general public about the dynamics of and issues surrounding domestic violence. We also offer professional trainings tailored to meet the needs of any professional group (e.g. law enforcement, teachers, human service and health care workers). Rural Outreach: We provide community organizing, education and advocacy to the rural towns in South County (Block Island, Charlestown, Hopkinton, Exeter, Narragansett, and Richmond).

Volunteer and Intern Opportunities: The DVRCSC offers a comprehensive training three times a year for those individuals seeking to volunteer as a victim advocate in one of the agency’s programs. There are also many opportunities for students to intern with the agency for college-course credit. Volunteers and interns help at the Safe Home, in the courts, with support groups and on the helpline. They may also assist in planning special events and educational forums. Those interested should contact the Director of Education & Outreach at 401.782.3990 to schedule an interview.

ADT Alarms: ADT provides alarm systems free of charge in victims’ homes as part of the statewide program called AWARE. Along with the systems comes an emergency necklace with a panic button. When the client pushes the button, a signal is sent to the state or local police from the ADT operators that an AWARE call has been received. Anyone interested in having an alarm installed in their home should contact the court office at 401.782.4174.

Emergency Cell Phones: Cell phones are available to clients at both our Drop-In Center and court office free of charge. These phones are pre-programmed to dial 911 and one other non-emergency number ONLY (a shelter, hotline, counselor etc.), therefore offering instant access to help in an emergency.

Transportation Assistance: Financial assistance is available to clients living in rural communities who wish to access our services, but have no means of transportation. We will provide money for gas, bus passes, ferry tickets and occasionally taxi fare.


Other Agency Referrals:

RI-VINE: A free, anonymous, computer-assisted service provided by the RI Department of Corrections offer the caller information about an offender including status, location and anticipated release date. Callers may also choose to register for automated telephone notification when the offender’s status has changed. Call 1.877.RI4.VINE and follow the prompts or call our helpline for more information.

Gay and Lesbian Support Group: A support group held in Providence, RI targets victims of domestic violence who are in same-sex relationships. Call 401.658.4334 for more information.

Non-English Speaking clients: Please call the RI statewide helpline at 800.494.8100 to talk with an advocate who speaks your language.
